Othello
Act Four Explication

Iago has sparked a fire in Othello and has told him nothing but lies. Othello, who is overly trusting and vulnerable, is easily separated from the truth and overwhelmed. As you know, Iago hates the moor and well do anything it takes to destroy him. Most of the things he does, like lying, classifies him as psychotic. He is deceitful, disregards safety for others, and has a lack of remorse. In act four, Iago has convinced Othello that Desdemona has not been faithful to Othello and has shared a bed with Cassio. He decides to kill Desdemona by strangling her, with was Iago's idea. Othello doesn't make any decisions without Iago's opinion; therefore, Iago easily persuaded Othello to do anything he wanted. Othello becomes so overwhelmed with his life, he has a seizure. The diction from act four shows how easily Iago was destroying Othello. The phrase "If...prove a crocodile" means she is faking her emotional state, which Othello was convinced that she was. When Dedesmonda lost the handkerchief, and Cassio found it, Othello was sure she wasn’t faithful and didn't care about him. He didn’t know that Iago had planned this whole event secretly. Overall, Iago in his psychotic state has also turned Othello into a psychopath. He threatens his wife and hates his life. All of this was cause be Iago, a cunning but terrible person.
